    What is a detox herb ?

    An aromatic herb is a type of condiment. It is a foodstuff that is consumed in small quantities in order to embellish and give more taste and flavor to its cooked dishes. The detox action of some herbs implies that they have medicinal virtues. Here are the most relevant.

    Peppermint : a boost for digestion

    Peppermint acts on the entire digestive function :

    • it energizes the liver and the intestines;
    • it stimulates the production and evacuation of bile.

    Detox tip : Mint can be prepared as an infusion. To do this, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of fresh or dried plant to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for 5 minutes. To drink preferably after the meals.

    Basil : the remedy against bloating

    Basil is one of the best remedies to fight against bloating which is linked to the accumulation of gas in the digestive system. Basil helps to expel them but also to digest better.

    Detox tip : try it also in sweet recipes with strawberries, it is a delight.

    Parsley : the top diuretic

    This aromatic plant is well known for its diuretic action which supports the renal function. It participates in the process of detoxification by its richness in vitamin C and antioxidants.

    Detox tip : to preserve all its medicinal virtues, consume it raw.

    Rosemary : cholagogue and choleretic

    Rosemary is choleretic, it stimulates the production of bile. It is also a cholagogue by promoting the evacuation of bile from the gallbladder. It thus allows the good functioning of the liver and the digestive system as a whole.

    Detox tip : rosemary is best used in dishes that cook gently over several hours such as ratatouille, simmered dishes, soups and papillotes.

    Thyme : the digestive tonic

    Like rosemary, thyme helps to improve digestion. It stimulates the action of the liver, and protects this organ thanks to its richness in antioxidants. It also has tonic effects on the whole digestive system.

    Detox tip : thyme can be prepared as an infusion. For that, count 1 tablespoon for a cup of boiling water, to let infuse 10 minutes maximum.
